Defense and security company, BAE Systems introduced the vendor development program which will enable more local producers involved in the production of weapons for use by the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN).
Deputy Chief Executive Officer Bofors Asia Sdn. Ltd. (Bofors Asia), Bengjt Bjurstrom said, through this program are, BAE Systems Bofors weapons technology will transfer from Sweden to the local industry.
He said discussions with the parties concerned to implement the program is running smoothly.
He said, if implemented, Malaysia will be the manufacturer and distributor of major Bofors guns for the region.
"For future programs, Bofors Asia will produce new weapons for naval use a lot of components produced by local producers through vendor development program," he said at a news conference at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC), here today.
Bjurstrom said, there are currently 10 local companies involved in the programs and projects Bofors Asia.
