Indonesia wants to buy 50 Marder IFVs

The government in Jakarta Indonesia is interested in 50 Marder IFV. The Greens protest, because the vehicles are suitable for counter-insurgency.

The Indonesian wish to purchase weapons in Germany is longer. After the government declared in Jakarta to try to buy some 100 Leopard 2 battle tank in the West, will now also another 50 Marder 1A3 infantry fighting vehicles of the type happen. 

"The federal government is interested in acquiring the Indonesian government armored type MARDER known," it says in a reply to a request of the Ministry of Defense of the Bundestag Katja Keul that lies before us. The army wants to sell hundreds Marder 1A3 type in the coming years because of the new Puma infantry fighting vehicle is introduced.

The Greens criticized the pending deal with Indonesia. "It's not that the army throws old tank on the global market," says Keul, arms expert of the Greens parliamentary group. In the past, the Bundeswehr has already sold 207 marten in Chile, for nearly eleven million euros. In addition, battle tanks were the type Leopard 1 and 2 to Brazil, Singapore and Chile.

"The tank export to Indonesia must be stopped," demands Keul. "There is still the rule that no weapons allowed to go to third countries. Moreover, the human rights situation in Indonesia is problematic.
