Pakistani is ready to conduct firing test of Nasr nuclear-capable missile system in May 2012

Pakistan plans to conduct another test of
tactical missile Nasr (Hatf IX) in May 2012 able to carry a nuclear warhead, said Saturday, May 19, 2012, the television channel Geo TV. 

According to the channel, the Pakistan army is fully ready to test. However, the date of the test firing has not yet been announced.

The Nasr (Victory in English) is a solid propellant missile which can be launched from mobile vehicle station. With a maximum range of around 180 km, the missile is distinguished by great accuracy.

According to the Pakistani military, this is the next generation of missile system designed to respond quickly to any threat. Earlier this month, the Pakistani military announced the launch of the Hatf III Ghaznavi Short-Range Ballistic missile at an annual field training exercise by the Army Strategic Force Command. The Hatf III has a range of 180 miles.

And on April 25th, Pakistan launched a Shaheen-1A intermediate-ranged missile in response to its sworn enemy India’s Agni-V intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) test.

Having fought three wars with India since Pakistan first declared independence in 1947, tit-for-tat missile tests have become a regular feature of the countries’ bilateral relations.

After India’s first thermonuclear warhead test 14 years ago, Pakistan responded with a series of nuclear bomb explosions the same month.
